There is Music in the Rattle
of the Chains
Marge Merrill
From the Book:
Jazz Workshop
I already know
I’ll take an IPA
to a table
where I can see
the band
in birth.
Tinhorn
with bionic ears,
I got nothing
to add
to chords and tunings
registers,
mix.
I’m just here
for the poetry.
If I leave
with no ideas of my own
no beginnings gleaned
no smoke
no sweat
nothing to pull me
from my bed
demanding to be bled,
then
music failed
to light the space
between the notes.
