From the book:

While Reading Neruda

Winter lies on my palm,
a secret too cold to keep!
He speaks to me in poetry;
delicate sand sifted through
fumbling fingers
     of admiration,
the work of his mouth,
          chemistry.

Sun's rays flicker
strobe-like
          through
the boughs
as warm and certain
        as his hands;
graceful fingertips
that brush my features,
like a blind man
          reading Braille,
     stirring them transparent
     as sunlit
               water.

I wake up beside my lover;
wearing verse---
like seashells around
     my nape.

He reads to me of far-offs
where sunset shadows lie softly,
quieted
by a look of love
     that holds the fabric
     of existence in place.
