Southern Journey Page 4 NOLA
The next morning Danny took me out to a wooded spot (rare) along the river just a little ways upriver from where they live. Nice to get a little naturalness along the industrial Mississippi.
The next few pics are from Audubon Park at a "lagoon" next to the golf course.
Great Egret along the shore.
Wood Duck with an American Coot in the background.
Fish Crow, a little smaller and higher pitched voice than the common Crow.
A stalking Great Egret.
An American Anhinga, female. A new bird for me.
A colony of nesting Great Egrets.
Oscar, at the French Market, cutting out metal for his handcrafted pins.
Spicy Drumfish, fixed by Pat. Another first for me.
Pat, Danny and Poppy in the background.
Sasha Masakowski at the Sonesta Hotel in the French Quarter.
Quite a bit different scene than at Bullets the night before. Just as enjoyable but a totally different atmosphere.
Trying to Listen to Sasha
Clink of glasses
din of constant chatter
takes away from
jazz voice
sweet voice
this music
so much background
for tourists
those here for
something else
something other than
this music
this warbler's song
floating out over
city din.
Danny showing off Bourbon Street. We were walking through, heading to beyond the French Quarter for more music.
This is not the "real" New Orleans, he says. He's right.
Jimmy Carpenter blowing sax at the DBA, Frenchmen Street, beyond touristy French Quarter.
