From the book:
An Ordered Universe of Chaos
I am in a stage of loving people. I am
trying to walk on coals. I am dancing
in cages. I am standing on a corner, trying
to figure out which direction is home. I am
sitting in a 72 degree room whether it’s raining or
snowing outside.
I am pretending to sleep on benches. I
am wearing. Am wearing the right things. I am forgetting
years at a time and packing
my belongings into grocery bags when I
come to. I am going through my day with my
cruise control on.
I am licking honeycomb tile to taste that
Sweetness of all-purpose cleaner. I am putting
my hand against a fake flame that burns
bright orange. I am trying to
wake up a little earlier each day.
Murmurations
Flocks of
Starlings
Weaving
Unraveling
The sky
Like silks
Like skeins
Or black rosary beads
Overspilling
In weightlessness
Haggling with heaven
To get a lift
In thin air
Telling their terms
To my blood
Sweeping
Alternating currents
Waves burning
Erasing
Burning again
So many
Schools of minnows
Sky-swimming
So much more
Than mere
Connect-the-dots
Meshing
Mattering the air
Turning up and
Tuning into
Swelling and
Wheeling
Making visible
Aura and corona
Merging our fields
Then separating
Just like that
Kneading
This mesh of birds
What will always
matter most
